PSG will get better after smashing Lyon 4-1

After smashing their most likely rivals for the Ligue 1 title, Lyon, 4-1 in the Trophee des Champions, on Saturday, PSG’s new manager, Unai Emery has said there is more to come from his team.

Javier Pastore scored the opening goal on nine minutes, while Lucas Moura and new signing; Ben Arfa added two more before the first half break.

Left back, Layvin Kurzawa added a fourth nine minutes into the second half before Corentin Tolisso got a consolation for Lyon.

“I’m happy with the win and the performance of the team, even if we can improve things,” Emery said in the post-match press conference.

“The team has worked hard physically throughout the pre-season and continued tonight.

“We played a tough game, Lyon had the ball possession, but we managed to take over.

“The championship will be difficult but I have confidence in the team to give the best.”

The former Sevilla manager later wrote on Twitter, “Glad to have accomplished the first goal of the season. We have a lot more ground to cover together.”

PSG are undoubted contenders for the Ligue 1 title, which would be a fifth consecutive title but it is in Europe that they would love to make their mark in the UEFA Champions League. The season starts at Bastia for the defending champions next Friday.

Premier League champions Leicester City have been humbled 4-0 by a clinical Paris Saint-Germain side at the StubHub Center in Los Angeles.

The Ligue 1 giants were ahead inside 26 minutes when Edinson Cavani sent Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way from the penalty spot after Daniel Amartey brought down Jonathan Ikone in the box.

Riyad Mahrez had a chance to bring City back on level terms moments later from a free kick, which last season's PFA Player of the Year fired on target for Alphonse Areola to push away.

Amartey headed wide from the corner, but PSG soon wrestled back control of the match and had a second as Ikone held off Wes Morgan and fired home when picked out by a deflected Thomas Meunier pass.

The third arrived shortly after the hour mark via the head of Lucas Moura, who got on the end of a Maxwell cross at the far post soon after Ahmed Musa wasted a fine opening at the other end.

Odsonne Edouard piled further misery on the Foxes in the closing stages, with the youngster simply outpacing the Leicester backline and bursting clean through to slot home number four.

Zlatan agrees United deal – but wants assurances from Jose on playing time

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly agreed terms to join Manchester United – but the move still hinges on discussions with Jose Mourinho. 

Sky Sports reported on Friday night that a one-year contract had been agreed between the Red Devils and Ibrahimovic, with a deal set to be completed before the European Championships begin next week.

The Guardian is also reporting that Ibrahimovic’s agent Mino Raiola has reached an agreement with United over the Sweden star’s salary, with the 34-year-old looking for a weekly wage in the region of £220,000 a week.

But their story also says Ibrahimovic wants assurances from Mourinho over what role he will play at Old Trafford next season, with the veteran unwilling to act as back up at this late stage in his career.

Raiola’s commission for bringing Ibrahimovic to United is also yet to be agreed, with the agent in France over the weekend, according to The Guardian, meaning discussions over that cannot take place until next week.

‘Ibra’ has been teasing the media for weeks as to where his next destination will be after letting his contract with PSG run down, but it seems likely that he will now try to add a Premier League winners’ medal to his glistening collection having won La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and Dutch Eredivisie titles during his illustrious career.

The reports from Sky Sports on Friday night also added that Ibrahimovic is the only striker Mourinho is interested in signing this summer, but his imminent arrival will not jeopardise the future of breakthrough star Marcus Rashford who will be an integral part of the Red Devils’ forward line-up next season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic bid farewell to Paris Saint-Germain in style by scoring twice and setting up another as the French champions completed a second consecutive domestic treble with a 4-2 win over Marseille in the French Cup final.

Marseille's Florian Thauvin cancelled out Blaise Matuidi's early opener in the first half, but Ibrahimovic, playing his final game for the club, took the game away from PSG's bitter rivals after the break.

The Sweden striker scored from the spot before teeing up Edinson Cavani and then adding another late goal to wrap up PSG's 10th French Cup title.

They had already won the Ligue 1 and League Cup trophies.

Marseille, who scored a second goal through Michy Batshuayi, were looking to salvage a mediocre season after finishing 13th in Ligue 1, but PSG were simply a cut above.

PSG went ahead after just two minutes when Matuidi latched onto Angel Di Maria's cross.

Marseille hit back 10 minutes later when Thauvin fired a low shot past Salvatore Sirigu to equalise.

PSG upped the pace in the second half and after just two minutes, Nicolas N'Koulou brought down Matuidi in the box and Ibrahimovic converted the resulting penalty.

Cavani wrapped it up with a powerful shot after being perfectly set up by Ibrahimovic and the Sweden forward completed the rout after collecting Matuidi's through-ball to slot past keeper Steve Mandanda. Batshuayi reduced the arrears three minutes from time.
