Breaking News: Rivers United team Bus involved in an Auto accident

The team bus of Rivers United was involved in an accident in Ndele, Rivers State on their way back from Ibadan after honouring a federation cup game against Enyimba which ended in a Fracas. 

Soccer120.com can confirm that no live was lost, but No less than four players are seriously injured.

The accident which happened at Ndele, Rivers State was said to have been as a result of over speeding by an oncoming vehicle which led to a head on collision.

According to eye witnesses, the team’s physiotherapist was seriously injured, with veteran goalkeeper Rotimi Sunday and combative midfielder Yusuf Jaiyeola sustaining minor cuts.

The match which was originally played yesterday was not completed due to the heavy rain at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. Although the fist half was completed (which ended 0-0), the unfriendly weather stopped the kickoff of the second half which led to the match to be rescheduled for today by 8am. 

The two teams filed out for the match this morning and proceedings got underway from the 46th minute of the second half. Enyimba took a well deserved lead in the 47th minute through Chukwude from a Joseph Osadiaye header after poor defending from the Rivers United backline.

The goal and memories of the Fifty thousand dollars promised to them by Governor Nyesom Wike if they win the match woke Rivers United from their slumber and they pressed Enyimba so hard that the Aba side spent most time in their own half defending.

But things took an awkward turn after the referee awarded a Penalty to Enyimba which was well resisted by players and officials of Rivers United. The players got angry because the referee ( Mrs Folusho Ajayi from Oyo State) refused to award a free kick to Rivers United after a clear foul on Ayobami minutes before the referee awarded the penalty. 

This lead to High ranking officials of Rivers United ordering the players not to continue the match and also to leave the pitch.

MFM FC and Kwara United crash out of Federation Cup

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) FC became the latest casualty in the Federation Cup as they lost 1-0 against Katsina United FC, crashing out in the round of 32 of the competition.

Katsina United got the only through Ibrahim Suleiman in the 54th minute, to send the Olukoya Boys out of the competition in a dramatic fashion on Wednesday. Another NPFL side, Enugu Rangers FC defeated Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC 1-0 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.

Defending champion, Akwa United scaled through Kwara United hurdles, as they defeated the Ilorin based-club with slim 1-0 victory to book their passage to the next round of the competition.

The competition is living to its billing, as giant killers’ competition. But MFM FC joined the likes of Kano Pillars and Niger Tornadoes, the two NPFL side that recently crashed of the tournament, after losing to Prime FC and Crown FC of Ogbomosho respectively.

Federation Cup Results: Rivers United through, Kano Pillars Crash Out; IfeanyiUbah, 3SC Reach Last 16

Kano Pillars Wednesday  were sent crashing from the Federation Cup by Prime FC, who won 2-1 to advance to the round of 16.  

Another lower league side Crown FC beat Niger Tornadoes 5-4 on penalties after both teams were deadlocked at 1-1 at the end of regulation time.  

However, other Nigeria premier league sides advanced to the next stage of the cup competition. 

Sunshine Stars outscored Abia Comets 4-2 on penalties after full time scores stood at 1-1, Nasarawa stopped Go Round FC 1-0, Rivers United thumped Kaduna United 4-0 and Shooting Stars went past Almar FC 3-0.

Eguma: We want to win against Kaduna United

Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma has demanded his team go past second-tier league side Kaduna United in a round of 32 match in the Nigeria Federation Cup.

Rivers United and Kaduna United will clash on Wednesday at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi.

Rivers United beat Papilo FC 4-3 in a thrilling round of 64 game in May to reach this stage of the competition.

Eguma said they now hope to progress even further in Nigeria’s oldest football competition.

“It is a very big match for us. The Federation Cup is a unique competition,” he said.

“The competition is no respecter of persons.

“Kaduna United is an experienced side as they have played in the (Nigerian top flight) in the past.

“We will not take them for granted.”

The Rivers United trainer however expects the lower tier club to enjoy certain advantages over his side in the game.

“Kaduna United have not played quite as many games this season as Rivers United,” he explained.

“There is also a little bit of fatigue for us (United play five competitive games in the next 12 days).

“We will however fashion out a way to contain them as the target is to win that game.”
