Friday Night Football: Rangers beat Warri Wolves 2-1 to go second on the table

Rangers International FC got their groove back on track with a 2-1 victory against visiting Warri Wolves FC in their Week 24 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Friday Night clash at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

Obinna Nwobodo gave the home side an early lead in the 7th minute following good work from the duo of Chidiebere Okolie‎ and Godwin Aguda, before the latter doubled Rangers’ lead six minutes to end the first half from the penalty spot after he was brought down.

Zinte Udeh pulled one goal back for Warri Wolves just before halftime capitalizing on Ghanaian goalkeeper Nana Bonsu’s error, and it turned out to be a consolation; as Rangers held on for a crucial win.

Rangers are now second on the table with 39 points from 22 matches, two points behind Wikki.

It was Rangers 11th win of the season, and the victory takes the Flying Antelopes to‎ two points behind league leaders Wikki Tourists with 39 points in second place above Rivers United (38 points) while Warri Wolves stay in 12th spot with 30 points.


Giwa FC striker Ocheme Edoh made his debut for Rangers.

Rangers beaten by El Kanemi

Rangers would have toppled Rivers United at the top of the standings had they won this game.  They still have 29 points from 18 matches, while El Kanemi moved up to 13th place on 22 points. Hosts El Kanemi raced to an early lead when Hussiani Bata tapped home after just four minutes of action.  

Rangers were denied an equaliser in the 39th minute, when Osas Okoro’s free kick came off the crossbar.  Ten minutes from time, El Kanemi doubled their advantage when Ibrahim Mustapha scored the penalty spot after a Rangers defender handled the ball inside his box.

Enugu Rangers coach, Imama Amapakabo wins League Blogger award for March

Enugu Rangers coach, Imama Amapakabo, has been named League Bloggers Awards (LBA) Manager for the month of April in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The award was tightly contested and it had to be determined on a number of co-efficient pick the winner as a few of the nominees had more appearances than others in the month under April.

Also it was the second consecutive time Amapakabo was winning the award, picking up the award in the month of March.

Amapakabo beat competition from the trio of Solomon Ogbeide of Sunshine Stars, Ard Sluis of Warri Wolves and Kennedy Boboye of Abia Warriors. 

The month of March saw Amapakabo lead Rangers to an unbeaten run for his team, which saw them pick up three wins out of four matches, including an away win of 1-0 at Giwa FC in mid-April. It was only MFM FC that denied the coal city side from keeping a 100% record in the month of March.
