Bad weather stops de Boer’s Inter debut

Bad Weather stopped new Inter Milan manager Frank de Boer from making his debut on Wednesday. 

The former Ajax manager replaced Roberto Mancini on Tuesday and was scheduled to see his new side in action against Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach in Ancona.

However, heavy rain ensured that the game was  postponed as the pitch was adjudged to be unplayable.

De Boer was surely gutted as it denied him the opportunity of seeing his new players in action first hand before the start of the new Serie A season next week.

Inter who have endured a poor pre-season so far which included the 6-1 hammering against Tottenham will return to action in the International Champions Cup clash against Celtic in Limerick on Saturday.

Mancini sacked, replaced by De Boer

Roberto Mancini has been sacked as the manager of Inter Milan and has been replaced by Frank de Boer.

Mancini’s sacking is coming just weeks to the start of the new Serie A season.

While it may have been unconnected, it is important to note that the Italian giants were walloped 6-1 by Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly on Friday.

Former Holland defender De Boer stepped down as Ajax manager at the end of last season after six years at the helm, of which he won the Eredivisie title four times.

The job will be his first outside of his native Holland, as the Inter’s Chinese owners seek to return the club back to its glory days.

De Boer, 46, was linked with the Everton and Southampton managerial positions earlier in the summer and was thought to be the favourite to replace Roberto Martinez but the Tofees chose another Dutchman – Ronald Koeman – instead.

The former Ajax manager also enjoyed a successful playing career, first with Ajax and then with Barcelona, before playing for Galatasaray and Rangers during the twilight of his career.

He will be expected to produce a better finish for Inter, who finished fourth in Serie A last term and missed out on Champions League football.

Bayern Munich trash Inter Milan

Julian Green proved the hero on home soil for Bayern Munich as he scored three first-half goals to help thrash Inter Milan 4-1 in North Carolina on Saturday evening.

The American winger took just 35 minutes to complete his hat-trick in the International Champions Cup clash, giving home supporters plenty to cheer about at the Bank of America Stadium.

Green has been used sparingly by Bayern in the past, but the USA international did his hopes of a squad place no harm when glancing home with seven minutes on the clock.

Franck Ribery was also on target for Bayern, picking his spot from the edge of the six-yard box to double his side's advantage early on in Charlotte.

Soon after scoring, Ribery turned provider when finding Green with a through-ball which the youngster was happy to smash into the back of the net to double his personal tally.

The third of the evening for Green arrived prior to the break as he rounded off a fine passing move, but Roberto Mancini and his players felt that the offside flag should have been raised.

A raft of changes at the interval meant that the Bundesliga champions lost the momentum gradually built up in the first half, but Inter themselves failed to find any real foothold in the game.

Inter did have a goal to cheer late on, though, after David Alaba's error was pounced on by Mauro Icardi who charged through and slotted past the largely untested Tom Starke.
