Marcus Rashford breaks England record
Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has become England's youngest ever player at a European Championship finals at 18 years and 228 days old.
Marcus Rashford was brought on with 17 minutes remaining, replacing Liverpool's Adam Lallana.
Wayne Rooney has held the record since Euro 2004 when he appeared in England's 2-1 defeat to France, with Rashford registering four days younger.
Rashford scored twice on his Manchester United debut, and then scored another double on his Premier League debut. The 18-year-old also scored on his England debut.
Gareth Bale says no England players would get into Welsh national team
Gareth Bale has continued the mind games ahead of Thursday’s Group B game in Lens this time stating that none of the current England player can pick up a starting shirt in the Welsh national team.
Last week, Gareth Bale also said that Wales were more patriotic than England and laughed when asked about this annoying them.
“It’s good that they bit,” he said. “I didn’t say they didn’t have pride or passion. In my opinion we have more. They probably will say the same. I’m happy with the comments. We’ve got a massive team spirit, the best I’ve seen. It’s just my opinion.”
Despite having a squad that includes Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Joe Hart ,when asked which England players would get into Wales’s side Bale was clear.
“None,” he said, denying mind games were being played. “For me there aren’t any – we just focus on ourselves, others like to comment on them. For us as a team and camp we don’t listen to anything, we concentrate on ourselves. Nothing is fazing us, we don’t feel any pressure, we’re just going to go out and enjoy the occasion.
France introduce alcohol ban after Euro 2016 violence
France are introducing an alcohol ban after the opening days of Euro 2016 descended into violence between rival fans.
The Euro 2016 kicked off with a 2-1 win for the home nation over Romania at the Stade de France on Friday, but already there were flashpoints of violence between England fans and Russia supporters in Marseille, which only intensified on Saturday when the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at the Stade Velodrome.
UEFA immediately condemned the violence and warned both nations they could be expelled from the competition if their fans are involved in further confrontations.
And now France's interior minister has ordered host cities to introduce an alcohol ban in the 48 hours before each game.
Bernard Cazeneuve told reporters.
"It is absolutely necessary that the national federations whose supporters create incidents of this nature be punished for what happened inside the stadium, and also outside,"
"I have asked for all necessary measures to be taken to prohibit the sale, consumption and transport of alcoholic drinks in sensitive areas on match days and the day before, and on days when fan zones are open,"
"The events which took place in Marseille yesterday evening are unacceptable. Unacceptable for the authorities, unacceptable for society, unacceptable for football lovers,"
Rashford and Daniel Sturridge in 23-man squad for the European Championship
Roy Hodgson has named both Marcus Rashford and Daniel Sturridge in his 23-man squad for the European Championship.
Marcus Rashford and Daniel Sturridge have both been included in England's final squad for Euro 2016.
Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater, Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend and Manchester City's Fabian Delph - who is injured - have all been omitted by Roy Hodgson having been named in his initial 26-man party.
Rashford was a surprise inclusion in Hodgson's provisional squad, with the 18-year-old earning a spot thanks to a superb breakthrough campaign with Manchester United, but impressed by scoring just three minutes into his full international debut against Australia last Friday and has made the cut.
Concerns had been raised over the fitness of Liverpool striker Sturridge, who missed last Friday's friendly win over Australia with a calf issue, but he has also been included.
Drinkwater misses out despite helping to inspire Leicester to a remarkable Premier League title win, while Townsend is omitted despite strong form for Newcastle at the end of the campaign.
