Midfielder Ikechukwu Ibenegbu ‘Mosquito’ has fired a salvo at Nigeria football fans who he claimed called Enyimba names for conceding three goals in Sousse against Etoile de Sahel Wednesday.
The loss in Tunisia was not enough to cancel out the Nigeria champions, who edged past 4-3 on penalties to reach the money-spinning group phase of the Champions League.
Ibenegbu, who was replaced early in the second leg game in Tunisia, said it was painful the fans did not give his team enough credit.
"Despite all the antics of Etoile de Sahel here in Sousse, Tunisia, to make sure we lost by all means and God helped us to qualify to group stage which no Nigerian team has achieved for the past four years, what we could get from some of our Nigerian fans was calling Enyimba all sorts of names#so painful#,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
“Are they not the same team we defeated in Nigeria by 3-0? But we saw how their true fans supported their team here in Sousse.
“Nevertheless, we will still make our team and our true fans happy."
