Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the hero for Manchester United as he netted the winner against Leicester City after Jamie Vardy cancelled out Jesse Lingard’s opener to hand Jose Mourinho his first title as Red Devils manager.
Ibrahimovic was handed a starting spot alongside Wayne Rooney for Manchester United while Ahmed Musa started from the bench as manager Claudio Ranieri entrusted Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy with the attacking responsibility.
The first chance of the game fell to Anthony Martial who did well to create an opening for himself but his shot only hit the side of the net.
Kasper Schmeichel saved a simple header from Wayne Rooney and was again called into action as Marouane Fellaini tested him with a right foot shot from the edge of the box, the keeper spilled the initial ball but gathers at the second attempt.
At the other end, the premier league champions nearly took the lead as Shinji Okazaki saw his efforts come off the bar. The Red Devils soon took the lead as Jesse Lingard scored a sweet solo goal.
The 23-year-old picked the ball from close to the center circle, rolled past a sea of legs and found himself with the goalkeeper and calmly applied a cool finish to give United the lead.
The first half ended with Jose Mourinho’s men with the lead. Leicester brought on Ahmed Musa and Demarai Gray at the restart.
Both players immediately influenced the game as they put the Foxes on the front foot.
Musa led a break away after a United attack broke down but Fellaini intercepted the move only to play a wayward pass into the path of Jamie Vardy and he made no mistake as he rounded off David de Gea to make it 1-1.
Manchester United goalscorer Lingard went off injured and was replaced by Juan Mata. With the game drawing to a close Musa saw a header go narrowly wide but that miss came to hurt them as Zlatan Ibrahimovic climbed highest to head home an Antonio Valencia cross.
Leicester City poured everything forward as they tried to level scores but Manchester United held on for the win.
