Results and reports of NPFL Week 23 games

MFM FC 0-1 3SC

Shooting Stars of Ibadan on Sunday, June 19, recorded their first away victory of the season in the NPFL as they defeated hosts MFM FC 1-0 at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.

It was Ebitimi Agogu’s goal in the 83rd minute which handed 3SC their first away win as MFM FC fans threw items at the match officials.

Niger Tornadoes 1-1 Enugu Rangers

Niger Tornadoes would have themselves to blame for sharing the spoils with their visitors in Minna as they performed poorly. Mustapha Musa opened the scoring for Tornadoes in the 42nd minute as both teams went into the break with the hosts leading.

Niger Tornadoes fans were expecting the referee to blow the final whistle before Osas Okoro broke their hearts as his strike restored parity for the Flying Antelopes in the 90th minute.

Abia Warriors 1-0 Heartland

After failing to record a win in their last two games, Uche Ihuarulam scored in the 28th minute to give Abia Warriors the 3 points against their arch rivals Heartland in Umuahia.

IfeanyiUbah FC 2-0 Rivers United

Former 3SC striker Wasiu Jimoh scored his first goal for his new club in his debut game as he opened scoring in the 23rd minute for the hosts. Rivers United did all they could to get back into the games but Ismaila Gata had other plans as he netted the second goal for the hosts.
Gata’s goal was his first for his new side since he joined them from Niger Tornadoes; he now has 10 goals this season.

Akwa United 2-0 El-kanemi Warriors

United taught the Warriors a good football lesson in Uyo as they condemned them to a 2-0 defeat. Michael Ikpe scored for the hosts to give them the victory.

Wikki Tourists 3-1 Kano Pillars

Wikki Tourists have maintained their supremacy at home this season as they came back from a goal down to beat Pillars 3-1 in a thrilled encounter in Bauchi.  Emmanuel Edmund opened the scoring for Pillars in the 35th minute, but it took the hosts just seven minutes to equalise through Ibrahim Alhassan.

Abubakar Lawal put the Tourists ahead in the 85th minute before Alhassan netted his second goal in the 90th minute to give Wikki Tourists the deserved victory. Kano Pillars were however reduced to 9 men as Jamiu Alimi and Tijani Adamu were both sent off by the centre referee.

Wikki Tourists retain the top spot of the NPFL standings with 41 points after 23 games played so far. Meanwhile, the match between Warri Wolves and Plateau United could not hold due to heavy downpour. The tie is expected to come up on Monday, June 20, in Warri.
