Ikorodu United’s team Bus was almost gutted by fire after a truck crashed into its side on 9 mile (Ninth Mile), Enugu State; Friday, en route Makurdi where they were expected to play Lobi Stars this weekend in a NPFL Matchday 23 fixture.
The Lagos based, NPFL side were traveling in a hired Bus along the Mile 9 high way ; 25 minutes from Enugu City center, when the accident occurred.
Though there’s not been any official confirmation of deaths, reports from the scene say a passenger bus was crushed but a few players in the Oga Boys Bus suffered minor injuries.

Recounting the situation, the Team Manager, Henry Balogun said: ‘ It was a terrible accident, it could have been a head long collision but our driver maneuvered, however the truck brushed the side of our bus ran into another bus. Our 18 players, officials and Coaches are safe.”
Meanwhile, Media Officer of Ikorodu Babatunde Ayoola told footballlive.ng that the club has withdrawn from this weekend’s game against Lobi and will communicate the League Management Company.
” We are coming back to Lagos first thing Tomorrow morning and we’ll send a medical report; MRI scan to the LMC. Sodiq had a cut on his knee. Our scout, Freeman, injured his elbow. Kabiru was hurt in his right shoulder and a few others sustained small injuries.
” The trauma to the players was severe. They saw mangled bodies scattered everywhere, but we thank God none of our players was severely hurt,” Ayoola confirmed.
Ikorodu United are bottom of the 19-team league since the expulsion of Giwa FC by the LMC.
