Women Clubs Threaten To Boycott League over negligence of women football by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)
As the football fraternity across the country eagerly awaits the resumption of the Nigeria Women Premier League and the Nigeria Women Professional League this weekend, over 20 clubs are threatening to boycott the process, Futbalgalore.com has been reliably informed.
According to the Secretariat of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), both leagues are scheduled to continue on 30th July 2016, after a two-week break.
Incoming reports indicate that, Premier and Professional league clubs held a meeting that was attended by over 20 teams last week.
Among the issues discussed is the negligence of women football by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and unfulfilled promises to the development of the game.
The clubs advocated for a well structured framework in the organization of the two leagues.
They also accused the NFF of interfering in the running of the leagues and for bringing the game into a state of chaos.
The clubs made it clear that they won’t release their players to any of the National sides if their SOS call doesn’t receive the needed attention.
The NFF is yet to respond to any of these threats.
However, a top source at the Glass House said that the football body opposes the clubs’ threats to boycott this weekend’s matches.
The NFF will meet to decide whether to ban teams who fail to play on Saturday and Sunday.
