Rivers United Match day 29 NPFL fixture against relegation threatened Ikorodu United scheduled to hold on Sunday in Port Harcourt may be postponed due to the accident Rivers United players were involved in.
This was disclosed in a media chat by the club Media officer Mr Sammy Wejinya. He said that the club (Rivers United) has written to the organizers of the League which is the League Management Company (LMC).
"We have written to the LMC asking for the game to be postponed. We have not received any reply or response from them (LMC). We can't play Ikorodu because our players are recuperating".
The players and officials are still receiving treatment in hospital( University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital) for the injuries they suffered in the accident.
You will recall that the team bus of Rivers United was involve in an auto crash along the Ndele axis of the East West road in Port Harcourt on their way from Ibadan after honouring a federation cup game against Enyimba FC.
The accident was said to have been as a result of over speeding by an oncoming vehicle (that had its driver under the influence) which led to a head on collision with the Rivers United bus
No live was lost during the incident, but players of Rivers United sustained injuries and cuts.
Rivers United currently sit on the third position with 44 points, three points adrift leaders Rangers who have 47 points. If the game goes on, it will be Live on TV (Supersport 9 ) by 4pm on Sunday.
The first leg of the match between Rivers United and Ikorodu United (Played in Lagos on Sunday, 27th March 2016) ended in a 3-2 victory for Rivers United. In a game that marked the turn around of the Port Harcourt side.
