Barcelona have officially confirmed the €16.5m signing of Paris Saint-Germain left-back Lucas Digne, potentially rising to €20.5m, depending on various add-ons. The French defender has agreed a five-year contract that will keep him in Spain until 2021, with a buy-out clause of€60m.
The 22-year-old becomes the Catalan giant's third major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Denis Suarez from Villarreal and Samuel Umtiti from Lyon. He is now due to land in Barcelona on Thursday to undergo a medical and formally sign the contract.
Liverpool were previously heavily linked to the player, particularly last summer before he joined Roma on loan for the duration of the campaign.
Digne made 33 appearances in the Serie A last season as Roma finished third behind Juventus and Napoli. He scored three goals from left-back, as well as providing three assists, but the Giallorossi declined to make the move a permanent one.
It means that Barça were left unopposed to sign the player. He was deemed surplus to requirements at PSG last summer after the arrival of Layvin Kurzawa from Monaco relegated him to third choice left-back behind the rising talent and Brazilian veteran Maxwell.
At Camp Nou, it is anticipated that Digne will provide back-up and competition for established regular starter Jordi Alba.
An obvious talent since his mid teens, Digne was a regular for former club Lille by the age of 19, form which earned him the high profile move to Paris in the first place. He has been a French international since Under-16 level, representing Les Bleus at every age group through to senior.
He was selected by Didier Deschamps for the final 23-man Euro 2016 squad but remained an unused substitute behind Patrice Evra for the duration of the tournament.
