Heartland FC bounced back to winning ways in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with a 2-0 home win against visiting Akwa United FC at the Dan Anyiam Stadium on Saturday in Owerri.
The win took the Naze Millionaires out of the relegation zone, in their Match-day 24 clash against the Promise Keepers in Owerri. Omoh Johnson gave the home side a 61st minute lead before captain Chinedu Efugh confirmed the victory as he bundled home the second goal six minutes from time.
Elsewhere at the Maiduguri Township Stadium in Borno, El-kanemi Warriors scored late in the added minutes to secure maximum points against Lobi Stars of Makurdi. Lobi goalkeeper John Lawrence saved a 4th minute penalty from El-kanemi Warriors forward Ibrahim Mustapha but it was not enough as a late deflected strike from Usman Malika condemned his side to a 1-0 defeat.
The win for Heartland takes them above Shooting Stars, with 26 points in 16th place while Akwa United stay in 7th spot with 32 points. El-kanemi Warriors also moved above another South-west team MFM FC of Lagos into the top 10 with 31 points, which is the same point tally with opponents Lobi Stars in 9th position.
