Rivers United midfielder, Frederick Obomate, has been passed fit for the club’s match day 18 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game against Akwa United.
Obomate suffered a foot injury during the warm up for the club’s match day 17 game against Abia Warriors in Umuahia on Sunday and was promptly replaced by midfielder, Ebuka Nnaebuo.
The midfielder has now been given the all clear to return to action for the club’s game against the Uyo-based Akwa United on Wednesday.
“Obomate suffered a slight foot injury during the warm up for the game against Abia Warriors.
“It wasn’t as if he could not play at all but with the conditions of the pitch (at the Umuahia Stadium on Sunday), I decided not to risk him.
“And I think it was the right decision because the (club’s) doctor (Chukwuemeka Agi) has now examined him and passed him fit for our next game on Wednesday,” the Rivers United technical manager, Stanley Eguma told the club media.
Eguma also spoke about the condition of strikers, Guy Kuemian (who has not played since April 10) and Wilson Andoh, who injured his knee during United’s 1-2 reverse to Plateau United in Jos on April 24.
“The two players are fit enough to start games but we have to handle things calmly.
“My decision not to play them against Abia Warriors on Sunday was purely tactical.
“They are both in the frame to play against Akwa United on Wednesday,” he said.
Rivers United currently sits in sixth place in the NPFL standings with 28 points from 17 matches.
