Okocha curled in the first goal |
Bolton Wanderers legend Jay-Jay Okocha was widely considered the greatest Nigerian footballer of his generation… and he’s clearly still got it.
The 42-year-old took part in a Bolton legends match at the weekend, which looked to raise funds for the Bolton Wanderers Supporters and Community Trusts.
The match saw an emotional return for former Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba, who suffered a cardiac arrest in 2012 and was forced to retire from professional football.
And while Muamba managed to get on the scoresheet by netting a second-half penalty, it was Okocha who really rolled back the years by scoring a brilliant effort from outside the box:
John McGinlay’s All Stars beat Tony Kelly’s All Stars 6-2 on the day.
Okocha made 124 appearances for the Trotters from 2002 to 2006, before leaving for Hull City, where he ended his career.
Luckily, Okocha’s nephew, Arsenal star Alex Iwobi is now carrying the torch for the family and doing the family proud, having made his international debut this season.
