A raging cold war with general manager Rasheed Balogun may have been the main reason veteran Kadiri Ikhana threw in the towel as Shooting Stars coach on Sunday.
A top source informed AfricanFootball.com Ikhana was never the choice of Balogun, who was only forced to work with the former Enyimba coach by the Oyo State House of assembly.
“Balogun preferred to work with another coach he could control, but the powers that be forced Ikhana on him,” said the source.
“He never wanted to work with Ikhana because he cannot control him.”
The influential fans of the Ibadan club were also divided on Ikhana’s engagement with some opposed to the “high salary” of 1.2 million Naira he pocketed every month.
Ikhana himself has said he quit because of failing health.
The financials of the club have also deteriorated so much so that for the past three years the players have been paid half salaries and they have now not been paid for the past six months.
