Kick-off was expected to be delayed by 45 minutes after a suspicious package was discovered.
But the game has now been called off on police advice. Sniffer dogs were sent into the stadium to investigate the package.
The match was then abandoned on the advice of police about 10 minutes after the scheduled 3pm kick-off.
A suspect package was found in the north west quadrant of the stadium, which the police investigated.
It led to the players being taken off the pitch while undergoing their pre-match warm-ups and the two stands being emptied.
