They have 27 points from 14 matches, same as erstwhile leaders Rangers, but enjoy a better goals difference of +8 as against Rangers +6.
Giwa are second from bottom with 14 points from 15 matches.
Uche Ihuarulam headed Warriors ahead in the 38th minute thanks to an assist by experienced defender Valentine Nwabili.
The home team were without star striker Chisom Chikatara, who is nursing a minor injury.
In the second half, Giwa goalkeeper Friday Achimugwu denied Abia Warriors from adding to the scoreline.
