SLIMANI OVERTAKES AUBAMEYANG AS TOP AFRICAN SCORER

Algerian striker Islam Slimani has overtaken Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the leading African scorer in a major European league in the 2015/16 season.

The 27-year-old Fennec Foxes star on Saturday netted his 24th league goal in the Portuguese top flight this season, helping his club Sporting CP to a 1-0 away win over Moreirense which keeps them within touching distance of leaders Benfica with four rounds of matches left to play.

ALgerian international striker, Islam Slimani, took the throne from Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the leading African scorer in a major European league in the 2015/16 season.
The Sporting hit man scored his 24th league goal in the Portuguese top flight this season, beating Aubameyang 23 Bundesliga-goal-record. However, the Dortmund speedy striker remains the leading African scorer in all competitions, having netted a brilliant 37 goals compared to Slimani’s 28.
Only two Algerians have managed more European league goals in a single season than Slimani in 2015/16:Ahmed Oudjani (Lens), with 30 goals in 1963/64, and Rachid Mekhloufi (Saint Etienne), with 25 goals in 1956/57.
