Ligue 1 Preview: AS Monaco 1 - 2 Girondins de Bordeaux

Jérôme Prior has been preferred in goal to 18-year-old loanee Paul Bernardoni since Ramé replaced Willy Sagnol as Bordeaux coach three weeks ago, and the FCGB academy graduate had an early chance to show why, denying Monaco midfielder Farès Bahlouli what would have been his first Ligue 1 goal after a volley from the edge of the box (7').

Bahlouli and Prior, both 20, enjoyed fine starts to the game, and the former pulled off a stunning bit of skill to send a cross into the Bordeaux box soon after, but Cédric Yambéré cleared the chance before Prior had to deal with it (20').
Having begun this Week 32 opener in second, 16 points better off than their visitors in 14th, it was perhaps unsurprising that Monaco enjoyed nearly 60 percent of possession, but that did not to stop the visitors taking the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Bordeaux break the deadlock

Vagner Love was called back for offside after latching onto Tiemoué Bakayoko's mishit shot (40'), and Bordeaux made the hosts pay with the final act of the half when Touré steered Ounas' corner home at the back post for 1-0 (45+1').
Despite their recent travails, Bordeaux came into this match undefeated in their previous nine visits to the Stade Louis II, and they extended their lead soon after the restart. Ounas went from maker to taker, finding space from another corner before steering his fifth goal of the season past Danijel Subasic (56').
Leonardo Jardim brought Fabio Coentrao and Guido Carrillo on for Elderson Echiéjilé and Bakayoko in an attempt to refresh his side and give them more presence in the final third with Carrillo (58'). Kyllian Mbappe Lottin, 17, was then introduced for a visibly tiring Bahlouli (65'), but the substitutions failed to change the tide of the game.

Touré chance
Indeed, Bordeaux should have made it 3-0 when Touré and Ounas once again combined. Touré got past Subasic, but he tried a selfless pass for FCGB substitute Enzo Crivelli despite having the goal at his mercy and the chance went begging (69').
Monaco nearly pulled one back when Bernardo Silva span the ball into the area for Carrillo, but the Argentine headed wide (79'). Vagner Love had chance to score his fifth Ligue 1 goal after Carrillo earned a late penalty, but Prior saved (90'). The hosts forced home an own goal via the unfortunate FCGB defender Frédéric Guilbert (90+3') but it was too little too late and it ended 2-1.
The win moves Bordeaux nine points clear of the drop zone, though having played a game more than their rivals. Defeat for Monaco means that OGC Nice can pull to within two points of the principality club in the second automatic Champions League place with victory on Saturday, though that promises to be a tall task given their opponents are runaway champions Paris Saint-Germain.
