Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi has come out plain that it was quite difficult for him to turn down the chance to play for the England national football team and instead settle to play for the Super Eagles.
Iwobi who has played for the English age-grade teams in time past put to rest uncertainties around his international career when he stared for Nigeria in the double-header against Egypt in the AFCON qualification series
The two games played in Kaduna and Alexandria means the 19-year old has since pledged his international career to Nigeria.
Reflecting on the journey so far with Nigeria in an interview with Arsenal Player, Iwobi said it was a tough call making his final choice between England and Nigeria.
“It was a difficult decision picking Nigeria over England,” he told Arsenal Player.
“England did contact me recently before I played my first competitive match for Nigeria, asking if I wanted to play for England. I’m very proud to represent Nigeria but I would like to say thank you to England for the chance they gave me, it was a difficult decision.
With his bold move, Iwobi has emulated the likes of Victor Moses who after playing for England youth teams moved on to play for Nigeria.
