Dutch youngster Tahith Chong has confirmed that he's set to sign for English giants Manchester United this summer from Feyenoord. The 16-year-old reportedly impressed Manchester United's scouts playing for the Feyenoord's Under-17 team in the Premier Cup held at United's Carrington complex.
A striker by trade, Chong has a lot of interest from a host of European giants including a few of Manchester United's Premier League rivals in Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and more. However, he's made his mind up about moving to Old Trafford but is equally disappointed with the way his current club treated his situation.
Speaking to Dutch newspaper, Elf Voetbal, he said, "It was my intention to stay at Feyenoord, but no plan was made for me."
"When I said I wanted to leave, they made a plan. That was too late.
"At Manchester United, I had a better feeling. You can feel it immediately when you walk in a club."
With Louis van Gaal likely to stay on as the manager of Manchester United next season as well, Chong will have a compatriot at the helm of the club which could heavily play in his favour and growth in the club.
The left-footer is seen as the kind of player the club are giving time to much like they've done the same with Marcus Rashford. Bar his afro, he's got quick feet, an eye for a finish and the pace to dribble / run past players.
Manchester United are deeply in the need of a striker who can come in and hit the ground running, Chong is not player. But given time and the right guidance, he has the ability and confidence to be.
While Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have done the job in Wayne Rooney's absence, the English captain has yet to recapture the kind of form that took him to the pinnacle of the sport. Louis van Gaal is interested in signing a proven goal-scorer with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Edinson Cavani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku being linked week in and week out.
Elsewhere, the club are reportedly set to be closing in on the signing of Portuguese midfielder, Renato Sanches. The 18-year-old has been in fine form for UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists SL Benfica and is apparently interested in moving to Manchester – with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Nani, Anderson and Bebe having made a similar move before.
