England manager Roy Hodgson was handed fresh injury concerns for the Three Lions' international break as Manchester City duo Joe Hart and Raheem Sterling both had to be substituted off in the Manchester derby on Sunday.
England winger Sterling departed early in the first half after being fouled by Juan Mata, with the 21-year-old limping off and heading straight down the tunnel for treatment.
Worse was to come for City in the second half as Martin Demichelis' risky backpass saw the goalkeeper injure himself trying to clear under pressure from United forward Anthony Martial.
The City and England number one received treatment on the pitch for an apparent calf injury before having to be stretchered off, with Willy Caballero - who was City's hero in the Capital One Cup triumph - taking his place after 50 minutes.
United led 1-0 at the tie of Hart's departure, with Marcus Rashford scoring a fine opener to continue his impressive rise to the first team.
Stoke's Jack Butland and Southampton's Fraser Forster are the two remaining candidates for Hart's starting spot as England prepare to face Germany at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on March 26.
England then play Netherlands three days later at Wembley as Hodgson begins preparations for Euro 2016 in France this summer
