CSKA striker Ahmed Musa, who clinched the all-important winner in the derby against Spartak Moscow, was named Russian Premier League Match day 19 MVP.
The Nigerian striker, a summer target for surprise who is a prime target for English Premier League leader Leicester City, also grabbed a goal in each half as CSKA Moscow defeated Kuban Krasnodar 2-0 in Saturday’s Russian Premier League game at the Arena Khimki.
Despite the poor state of the pitch, Musa got his first chance at goal on 19 minutes but fired off target from close range. Two minutes later, the Nigeria captain opened scoring. He smashed in a left-footed effort from a corner kick past Kuban goalkeeper Aleksandr Belenov, before doubling his tally in the second-half to put Leonid Slutsky’s men out of sight.
This award is presented by RFPL and one of the leading sports websites Championat.
Musa is one of 18 foreign-based pros invited by Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia to prosecute the crucial Afcon 2017 qualification doubleheader against the Pharaohs of Egypt later this month.
