Michael Carrick signs One year contract

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has officially agreed a new contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2017 and take him into an 11th season with the club after first arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.

An announcement had been expected for several days after reports that an agreement had been reached. "This great club has been a part of my life for the past 10 years, so I am delighted that this incredible journey is continuing," Carrick told ManUtd.com.

"It's great to have the opportunity to work under José Mourinho, who has achieved so much during his managerial career. I would like to thank the fans for their unwavering support.

"Winning the FA Cup was a special moment and, hopefully, we can go on to win more trophies in the future."

Prior to last season's FA Cup triumph, Carrick had already collected five Premier League titles, a League Cup, a Champions League and a FIFA Club World Cup, as well as playing in two further Champions League finals.
Mourinho, who will be the fourth United boss he has worked under, was equally delighted by.

"Michael is a very intelligent midfielder and a great reader of the game," the new boss commented. "I am pleased that he will be extending his contract. His form this year shows his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever.

"Michael has a wealth of experience from his many years at the club and that knowledge will be invaluable to me. I am really looking forward to working with him."
