Former Nigeria skipper Nwankwo Kanu on Saturday in Owerri, Imo State formally launched his football club Papilo FC.
Emmanuel Emenike, Joel Obi, IfeanyiUbah FC Chairman, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah and the Commissioner for Sports in Imo State Chidi Ibeh were all present to honour Kanu.
The club which has been in existence for over four years won the 2016 Imo State FA Cup, ending Heartland FC’s 27-year dominance of winning the State FA Cup.
Meanwhile Ubah donated N2 million to the development of the club’s complex.
Ubah, who is also the Anambra FA chairman also donated $3,000 to the Papilo FC team for winning the Imo State FA Cup.
Also former Imo State gubernatorial candidate, Emeka Ihedioha, donated a brand new Hiace bus to the team.
Ex-Nigeria striker Emenike and Torino midfielder Joel Obi donated N500,000 each to the club.
Reacting to the massive support Papilo FC got from his guests, Kanu said: “I’m happy to give back to my state and to help out in discovering talents.
“Papilo FC basically could serve as a pool where the state owned team Heartland can tap from.” The club was recently eliminated from the federation cup by Rivers United.
