In Serie A wrap for this week, Juventus continued their march toward another Scudetto, while AS Roma were big winners in the Rome derby.
We start off from the San Siro, where Inter Milan’s hopes of finishing in one of the Champions League places was dealt a massive blow after they were beaten 2-1 at home by Torino. Red cards to Miranda and Yuto Nagatomo meant Inter finished the game with nine men.
Lazio’s hopes of also finding a Europa League ticket was dealt a serious blow as they were trounced 4-1 at the Stadio Olimpico by city rivals, Roma in the Rome derby. Lazio’s loss was compounded by Sassuolo’s 3-1 win at relegation-threatened Carpi.
AC Milan also followed in the footsteps of their cross-town rivals as they were beaten – albeit away from home – 2-1 by Atalanta. Genoa spanked Frosinone 4-1, while Chievo were 3-1 better than Palermo.
Napoli’s charge to the title was dealt a massive blow as they were beaten 3-1 at struggling Udinese, paving the way for Juventus, who beat Empoli 1-0.
And after 31 rounds of games, Juventus remain top, and extended their lead to six points following Napoli’s unexpected slip. Roma meanwhile, gained grounds on Napoli in second place after the win at Lazio, and they are on 63 points, just three adrift of the side from Naples.
Inter and AC Milan’s losses means they are fifth and sixth respectively, while Fiorentina occupies the fourth position.
Sassuolo, Lazio, Chievo and Genoa make up the top ten and at the bottom of the table, Verona, who play Bologna on Monday remain bottom, while Frosinone and now Palermo occupy the relegation spots.
