Trouble happened yesterday during the week 8 NPFL match between between FC Ifeanyi Uba and Heartland of Owerri in Nnewi.
Although Ifeanyiuba won the game 1-0, courtesy of Brazillian import Willam Da Silva’s 7th minute goal, the match ended in fiasco, with the two camps heaping blames on each other.
According to the account of Heartland media officer, Solomon Onuh, immediately after the referee gave Heartland’s goalkeeper, Ebele Obi the red card for dissent, Chief Ifeanyi Uba’s security details invaded the pitch and pounced on Obi and the reserve goalkeeper, Philip Achor and beat them black and blue, while captain Chinedu Efugh was lucky to escape the ferocious attack from the security men.
“It happened few minutes to the end of the game, one of our players was down but the referee turned blind eyes on him. This forced Obi and others to approach him but in the process of trying to complain to him, the referee gave Ebele red card and in the ensuing melee, the referee fell down.
“There and then, Chief Uba came down from his seat and had an argument with Ebele and before we know what was happening, his security details started beating him and Achor. As I speak with you, Achor is badly injured while Efugh has a swollen eye,” Onuh said.
But the chairman of FC Ifeanyiuba, Chukwuma Uba countered. “It’s a lie, nobody beat Heartland players. Rather it was Ebele who hacked the referee down and our proprietor came down to ensure peace. Infact Ebele and Ifeanyi Onuigo attacked me.”
Ifeanyi Uba is the owner of ifeanyiubafc, having bought the club from Gabros Fc for Chief Gabriel Chukwuma. The club enjoys financial stability and recently signed 6 Brazilian players.
