It was a weekend of rain in most cities across the nation and the matches of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) also rained goals across the centres on Match Day 6.
The tonic was set on Friday night as Akwa United's Friday Ubong ruined his former gaffer's homecoming. Visiting Plateau United were powerless to stop the winger whose one goal in each half ensured maximum points for the Promise Keepers.
Next was the Oriental Derby in which Abia Warriors yet again found Rangers an invincible opponent. The visitors, buoyed by their near flawless start to the season twice took the lead leaving Kennedy Boboye's men chasing the game. They got a late equalizer that meant this fixture ends in a draw for the third year running.
Four-time champions Kano Pillars continued their nice goalscoring run in Makurdi as they held Lobi Stars to a 2-2 draw with Prince Aggreh bagging a goal and an assist. In Lokoja, Niger Tornadoes went three goals up before goals by Daniel Israel and Guy Kuemian ensured a nervy finish. It ended 3-2 with the side from Port Harcourt leaving empty handed.
Newcomers MFM FC piled more misery on El-Kanemi Warriors beating them 3-1 at the Agege Stadium in Lagos. Daniel Japhet's second half goal looked like a start of a comeback after the home team had gone 2-0 up but Emmanuel Onuwa restored the two-goal lead 15 minutes from time.
FC Ifeanyiubah's date with Ikorodu United also saw five goals as the Anambra side showed no slacking in their early season form. Giwa FC left it late against a struggling Sunshine Stars. The side from Akure looked like they had earned themselves a point in Jos but substitute Omotayo Adegbogun broke their hearts with what effectively was the last kick of the game.
