Sergio Aguero has a rich goal scoring record against Manchester United. |
The Manchester City striker has scored seven times in as many league outings against Manchester United, and needs one more to equal the most by any player in BPL Manchester derbies.
Wayne Rooney holds the record with eight derby goals, but took 16 matches, twice the figure of Aguero if the Argentinian scores on Sunday.
Most EPL goals against Manchester United
10 Goals Alan Shearer
8 Thierry Henry, Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler
7 Sergio Aguero
Only five players have scored more against United in EPL history. Thierry Henry, Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler have hit eight goals apiece, while Alan Shearer scored 10.
Aguero is in good form to make history, having scored 11 goals in his last eight league appearances at the Etihad Stadium.
The striker’s record against United has also helped Manuel Pellegrini to three Manchester derby triumphs in the competition. No City manager has won four times in this fixture during the BPL era, with Joe Mercer’s five-match streak in 1970 the previous best.
City’s strong record goes further back than Pellegrini’s tenure as manager, with four wins and one draw from the last six league meetings against United, and the Red Devils have won just one of their last eight top-flight away trips, giving the blue half of Manchester plenty of optimism.
